Based on the book, the movie tracks a girl, conceived and engineered to save her older, cancer-stricken sister, played by Abigail Breslin. She fights her parents, played by Cameron Diaz and Jason Patrick, for control of her body when they want her to give a kidney. The roles of the daughters, played by Sofia Vassilieva and Breslin, were initially going to be played by real-life sisters Elle and Dakota Fanning, but Dakota reportedly balked at having to shave her head in real life.
She plays a mother who shaves her head in solidarity with her daughter Sofia Vassilieva of Mediumwho has leukemia. She looks good, hair or no hair. It must be one of those latex bald cap.
Sofia Vassilieva faces plenty of challenges on the NBC hit Medium, playing a teen who discovers she has the same powers as her psychic mom. In the film, directed by Nick Cassavetes, Vassilieva plays a girl stricken with cancer whose mother Cameron Diaz is determined to save her, no matter what. Sofia, who shaved her head for the role, told Parade.
The bond between TV mom and daughter goes further than the screen, at least in the case of Medium 's Patricia Arquette and Sofia Vassilieva. Arquette's a support system that Vassilieva learned she could count on for more than just inspiration as an actress. Case in point: When the younger actress was cast in the tearjerker My Sister's Keeperthe role required her to shave her head to play the cancer patient at the heart of the movie.

The lawyer agrees to work pro bono but Sara, whose life completely revolves around keeping Kate alive, goes to court to force Anna to help her sister.

The movie is based on a book by Jodi Picoult about a girl Breslin who was conceived to provide blood and bone marrow for her older sister Vassilieva who has a rare form of leukemia. She gets sick of being harvested for her organs and tries to sue for medical emancipation.
