An illustrated look at how a typical wood-frame floor is built, including sublooring and more. When viewing a framed house before the wall coverings are installed, the building often seems complicated and to some, a daunting project. Taken in that context, house or building framing is not all that difficult. It is a good idea, however, for the inexperienced to begin with a small, simple construction, rather than a two story, complex design.

Nails and screws are ancient wood-fastening technology that still get the job done today. But how do you know which one to use for any given project? Sometimes just a simple plastic sheet is placed under the bottom plate if a wall is built on a basement cement floor which provides the same barrier.
